Zonguldak Coal Geopark Project Located in Zonguldak province and its surroundings; It was established with the aim of determining geo-heritage and related cultural and archaeological heritage values, determining comparative value allocation and potential utilization capacities, and inclusion of the site in the global geopark network according to UNESCO criteria.

For this purpose, a Geopark inventory is created by evaluating the potential heritage elements determined by the project field research separately by field experts and classifying them thematically. Within the scope of the project, a comprehensive Geopark setup is being created, and studies are underway to create infrastructure, interpret and associate geosites according to this setup. The scientific, educational, geotourism value, usage scenario and carrying capacity of each geosite will be defined separately and the process will be completed. It is aimed to contribute to Zonguldak, our country and the whole world in the fields of scientific research, educational studies and tourism by revealing the potential of the Zonguldak Coal Geopark Project in detail and to be a learning platform.

In order to utilize this rich natural and cultural potential, to protect existing natural assets in addition to the economy based on coal and coal mining, and to include them in the daily life of the people through tourism, it was decided to establish and develop a "geopark". This decision is a historical transformation for Zonguldak, and it is the beginning of the effort to fuse industry with culture and nature tourism and to enrich its economy and social image.
